Rating: ***** Spotlight :: January

LW Blog · By: Game  , Jan 31 2010 08:59 PM

The first month of the new year has been a tale of resolution and revolution at Los Wonderkids. As you'll know, the vintage LW team came back to the site with a blatant intent to produce the finest FM discussion you can find on the internet. What you don't know is that we've been plotting away once more. Never happy standing still, we've been designing and producing a number of things behind the scenes; those will feature in one of the next Spotlight editions, for now we're going to take a look at the outstanding contributions from the Wonderkids this month.

The story section has gone from strength to strength over the last few months and January was not a disappointment. Skacel has been busy with Ajax, although he'd lead you to believe he was Addikted to managing Charlton. In a tale of deceit the man has moved to PSV and is currently Eredivise champion, although it took him until the last day of the season to win the title. Wazzar has been busy too, in one of the most active stories on the site, we're following him start from the very bottom as he looks to become king. He's loaded some odd leagues, and is on some crazy world tour - at the moment in Liberia, of all places. It's definitely one to follow and you can do so, here. Not to be left out, Marshall is Feeling the Burn. Currently in-charge of Burnley, he's doing well; a fifth round victory against Birmingham City in the F.A Cup reflects as much. Tied with Manchester United in the the Quarter Finals and optimistic of a win, after their narrow defeat to the Red Devils in their last visit to Old Trafford.

There is a lot of unique writing going on in the story section, in-fact there is so much quality I have to spend some more of my time highlighting the other top stories of this month - The Portrait of a Genius II is a story by Hendo. If you know Micky H, you'll know that he's an Australian-Asian odd-ball and you'll expect his story has the same pizazz, it does. After loading any amount of random leagues and turning down a job with a judicial system team called The Court of Appeal FC - of all things, he's hooked himself a job with Sunshine Stars FC in Nigeria. He started by showing up the Nigerians ability to con the West, and took the SSFC to the lowly spots in the league. This was a stroke of genius which allowed him to raise his odds with Nigerian bookies, place a bet and abruptly take the Stars up the table. Sadly, he spent his winnings on golden homo shoes. Of course, we can't end the month without mentioning The CV of an Englishman wanting success. Here we have Palacios pulling the the strings with Atletico Madrid - not to be confused with a journey seeking instant success, Palacios started with the newly crowned lower league king-pins Notts County. He's endured many trials and tribulations and is now deep into the future, having just been accosted at a New Year's Eve party in 2037. Lastly we've Trotting To The Top brought to you by Mansy - it's one of the biggest stories we have running at the moment and as you can expect, it's all about the Trotters, Bolton Wanderers. It is temporarily on hold for February because Mansy is partaking in a new challenge story (more below), but it's a big story for any newbie looking for a good read.

If you like the stories above, you'll like these challenge stories too. The first, isn't a challenge story per se, but it's a challenge for you to read it without going blind and it's a challenge for the writer - ArmageddonAsh, to form a sentence on one line. Still, it's a good story and it sees AA attempting a journey to become the new 'Special One'. Starting off in Croatia with NK Croatia Sesvete, he moved to Brentford and then Clube Desportivo Trofense. He's enjoyed success at club level and with Egypt along the way; he's got a lot more to win to make his name as the new Mourinho, but he might just do it and you can see that for yourself, here. Next up is a brief look at Crackfox's 'Full English' - a challenge with evil nit-wits Manchester City and the hope of making them a dominant side with domestic talent. There is a lot of money to spend at City these days and a lot of talent on offer in England, you can check for yourself to see who makes the squad and how they get on with their push for greatness. Finally we end with a battle for the Welsh crown. We've Melmmer and Mansy, mono e mono, battling against each other to win the Versus FM challenge Welsh Wizard. It's been very interesting so far and as such, popular. You can read the escapades from both managers, who are updating their stories in an all-new dual format. It's a great twist for the stories section and it's right here, ready to read. Like I said previously, we've many great stories to read, you can see them all here if you're looking for some FM entertainment.

Stories are fantastic at the moment and the FM discussion has been exceptional. As you'll know from January's Propaganda Podium - we're no longer doing WDYTO (what do you think of) and MOTM (member of the month) announcements. We are replacing them both with the Spotlight feature in which the staff team will highlight the key members they've noticed around the community and their contributions to the site. So, we do have a few special mentions for this month as a result... A special mention to Wazzar firstly; he's been fantastic all across the board - some outstanding FM posts, the tactical one's in particular and of course, as mentioned above, a very good story thread. Hala Madrid and WeAreThePeople both got some attention from their story updates - mostly for their detailing and quality I believe. Lastly, a quick mention for both Alba and Joeleoleoleol - not for the latter's ridiculous name but for both of their endeavours in the FM sections this month; Alba was noticed for his engaging discussion and Joel for his depth and quality in debate.

We cannot be as good as we are here, without the members we have here. So to everyone who knows they've been top draw, thanks for making the community very enjoyable to be a part of.

To finish this month's Spotlight, I'd like to quickly highlight some interesting pieces of literature you may not have yet read. We've any number of interesting jots and perspectives but we'll just take a look at a few of the main pieces from January.

First up we've this brief look into the mind of Fantastic and his thoughts about foreign policy in Eastern European clubs. It's called The Shaktar Identity and it ponders the following; "Shakhtar are a huge club. Fucking massive. They're rich too, indeed the arms dealing, smuggling and prostitution games all need places to launder money, in recent years various eastern European clubs have received huge influxes of cold hard cash (FC Sheriff Tiraspol, Bunyodkor Toshkent and Shakhtar being prime examples) with the only pre-requisite being no questions asked. Of course this money is put to use forming fabulous squads of Brazilians, overpaid and underplayed. But how is this being transferred into the game?"

Also this month Game took a look into the MLS. Inspired by a magnificent story, readable here - which has inexplicably been over-looked in this month's story spotlight; Game browsed the laws of the MLS and the contrast from Americana management to the European styled management. If you've ever wanted a challenge in Football Manager 2010, you'd love the twist the MLS presents and you can grab all the details you'd need to know about the challenging league here.

Lastly, we have the mind of the young Aussie, Melmmer on the plate. He's on a vocal rampage about Stepping out of your Comfort Zone, which takes a look at all the options FM presents to you when you load up your game. He asks an honest question - why don't you take a leap in the unknown?

And with that - members, guests, Wonderkids and old men looking for young boys to groom - from Los Wonderkids, see you next month.
