Apologies for the last update, I wont be editing the sky sports website again. For those interested the text is the following
19 Year old Manchester United fan, Andrew Symonds, has been unveiled as the new man in charge at Old Trafford.
.
At around 3 PM yesterday, new Manchester United owners, the Red Knights announced that the new manager of Manchester United would be a season ticket holder.
40,000 United fans packed into Old Trafford hoping that they would be the one to "win" one of the biggest jobs in football.
When the seat that had one the job was announced, Symond did not believe it, he stayed sat in his seat until stewards came and escorted him down to the pitch, where he was presented to the fans as the new Manchester United manager.
Most pundits have already written off Manchester United's chances of winning trophies with an unknown manager in charge, Paul Merson told Sky Sports "I don't see why they didn't just take any other manager in the world, nobody would turn down the job. They have shot themself in the foot, noone will want to join Man Utd with someone who knows little about football in charge, I give him five games, and then he will be sacked. He should have done the right thing and resigned as soon as he was given the job."
Sir Alex Ferguson however has backed the young man in his new position. "Everyone has to start somewhere, and where better to start than at the top, in my opinion I have built one of the strongest squads in the world, and with a couple of new faces, this can be the best team in the universe. I have given the lad my details, and I will try and advise him as best I can. That is all I can do, I am not the manager anymore."
United have friendly matches coming up, and although meaningless, they will help Symonds to pick his best team and work out the tactics he will use for the season.
Challenge
The biggest challenge in anyone's job is to make it their own, and Symonds will have to do this very quickly.
If it wasn't hard enough as it is, stepping into Sir Alex Fergusons shoes makes it one hundred times harder. If United struggle for results in their first few games, expect Symonds to be given his marching orders very swiftly indeed.
Former United favourite David Beckham (currently at AC Milan) has cast his doubts over the new manager's credentials.
"Surely this is a joke? This is the biggest team in the world, and they've employed a nobody, what is this all about, I wouldn't be surprised to see a headline in the paper tomorrow saying 'April Fools'". We hate to say it David, but its July...
Time
One thing is for sure though, if Symonds makes a success of himself, everyone will be eating their words.
Only time will tell if this was the biggest mistake in the history of Manchester United Football Club, or a stroke of Genius.
