Evening all, I'm playing as Man City in my 5th season on a network game have just reformed my defence as it was the weakest part of my team and now it's looking quite strong, and then I signed Balotelli for a cheeky £40M as I had it left over (Cheers Khaldoon Al Mubarak!) and now I am wondering which formation would suit my beautiful squad.

I can play quite an offensive formation of 4-1-2-3, or 4-3-3, however I'm not sure if I should stick to the old 4-4-2 and just train Fabregas and Silva to play on the wings, or play a more defensive 4-1-3-2, what do you think would be the best solution? Here is my squad, let me know your opinions! Also what roles do you think Balotelli and Villa should be playing? Currently have Villa as Poacher, and Balotelli as a Deep Lying Forward but I'm not sure that's right for him.

For me your best formation is a 4-2-3-1, with 2 CM's an AMC and two wide men and one striker up top, which should be Villa and you can play him as a Complete Forward, however I may be wrong

Personally I'd drop the wingers all together.

4-1-3-2 (DM, CMx3,)
4-1-2-1-2 (DM, CMx2, AMC)
4-2-3-1 (CMx2, AMCx3)
4-3-2-1 (CMx3, AMCx2)

Etc.

Silva's about your only wide player of note, even then he's just as good in the middle.

Otherwise you're using playing players out of position or ones who aren't exactly idea for wide roles.

Plus you've got 2 decent attacking fullbacks to use and exploit width.

The only reasons I said the wingers is that so you can play both Kaka and Silva in the same team, then you can have Balotelli coming in off the flank as an inside forward and you have got Fabregas and Sissoko in the centre.

You can play both Kaka and Silva in the same team in a wingless formation though. Either have both Kaka and Cesc in at CM and then Silva at AMC.

Both Kaka and Silva at AMC with Cesc and whoever at CM. etc

All the formations I mentioned would allow you to play all 3 of those midfielders, plus another 1 or 2 of select choice.

For me 4 (Defender) - 1 (DMC) - 2 (MR - ML) - 1 (AMC) - 2 (ST-FC)

It's the best formation for me since 2007, u can try this  :)

Thanks for all the recommendations all! I'm currently playing the 4-1-2-1-2, quite a narrow formation but it seems to be working and everyone is in their natural positions! 1st in the Premiership at the moment and haven't lost yet, and won my first Champions League game 7-3.

You're better off playing this way

GK

DR-- DC-- DC --DL

-------MC-- MC

AMC-- AMC-- AMC

-------- FC

or AMR AMC AML.

I'd play an 4-2-3-1,

2x CM's (1 of them Advanced play maker, other is Deep lying playmaker iirc) Complete forward on the ST with 2 wide men as inside forwards. :) Works a treat all the time, even in the lower leagues.
